RECOMMENDATION: Approve Resolution.
BACKGROUND:
The Community Media Center of Marin, located on the ground floor of 819 A Street, is preparing for a
Grand Opening event scheduled for Saturday October 10th, 2009. The Community Media Center is a
non-profit organization serving Marin County residents and organizations with media and television
training and production assistance. It is also the administrator of the Community, Educational and
Governmental cable access channels. The planned event is intended to be a brief press showcase and
welcoming to the community, featuring invited guests and local officials. The primary reason for
requesting the street closure is to enable this short event to take place directly in front of the
building. Tours of the facility will be offered as well.
We are seeking a partial closure of the street to safely accommodate the visitors. The Media Center has
sought the approval of their neighbors to ensure the temporary street closure would cause no hardships,
and all have been amicable to the proposal. The Community Media Center of Marin intends to make this
a showcase celebration not only for the neighborhood but the outlying community as well.
FISCAL IMPACT: None. Staff will coordinate road closure equipment and implementation.

RAFAEL AUTHORIZING THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF "A"
STREET BETWEEN SECOND STREET & THIRD STREET,12NOON —
7PM FOR THE GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION OF THE
COMMUNITY MEDIA CENTER OF MARIN ON OCTOBER 10TH, 2009
WHEREAS, the Community Media Center of Marin has requested a temporary street closure for
their grand opening and press conference on A Street between Second Street and Third Street; and
WHEREAS, after reviewing plans for the event and the traffic patterns, City staff has determined
and recommended that, in the interest of the safety and welfare of pedestrian and auto traffic in the
area, the above street should be temporarily closed to through traffic for the date and times
described above.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL HEREBY RESOLVES
AS FOLLOWS:
1. That all of the above findings are true and correct;
2. That, pursuant to the authority of Vehicle Code section 21101(e), for the safety and
protection of persons, both pedestrians and vehicle drivers, the City Council hereby
authorizes the temporary closure of the above fisted street for the date and times
described above.
