Streets to be closed from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.:
1. Alto Street from Larkspur Street,to Market Street.
2. Belvedere Street from Louise Street to Verdi Street
3. Tiburon Street from Market Street to Larkspur Street
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Resolution
BACKGROUND: The Canal Welcome Center has supported and promoted many successful Canal
events highlighting and helping the local residents and culture. This request for the approval of street
closures to accommodate the Fifth Annual International Festival is in line with the lineage of past events
providing for a fun, safe, lively and educational event experience for residents and visitors. This event has
grown from a one block community celebration to its current inception covering more than three blocks.
This growth is indicative of the importance and success of this annual event.
FISCAL IMPACT: None. Event Staff will coordinate with each department and assist.
ACTION REQUIRED: Adopt Resolution.

TO LARKSPUR STREET TO ALLOW FOR THE 5TH ANNUAL
INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11TH, 2009
FROM 9:00 A.M. TO 6:00 P.M.
WHEREAS, The Fifth Annual International Festival for the Canal Necessitates a Temporary Street
Closure on October 1 lth, 2009;
Streets to be closed from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.:
1. Alto Street from Larkspur Street to Market Street.
2. Belvedere Street from Louise Street to Verdi Street
3. Tiburon Street from Market Street to Larkspur Street; and
WHEREAS, after reviewing plans for the event and the traffic patterns, City staff has determined
and recommended that, in the interest of the safety and welfare of pedestrian and auto traffic in the
area, the above street in the Canal area should be temporarily closed to through traffic for the date
and times described above.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL HEREBY RESOLVES
AS FOLLOWS:
1. That all of the above findings are true and correct;
2. That, pursuant to the authority of Vehicle Code section 21101(e), for the safety and
protection of persons, both pedestrians and vehicle drivers, the City Council hereby
authorizes the temporary closure of the above listed streets for the date and times
described above.

Resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council

Event Overview
The 5th Annual International Festival of the Canal is a one day celebration of international
music, dancing, and food in the community. The Festival blends spicy flavors, dancing and
music, integrating the diversity of cultures in San Rafael.
