RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Resolution. BACKGROUND: Periodically, individuals or groups are presented Resolutions of Appreciation to recognize their outstanding efforts on behalf of the City of San Rafael. Typically, these individuals or groups are contributing a service of some kind on a voluntary basis and therefore receive no financial reward. Seven years ago the Volunteer Program established an annual Good Neighbor Award to recognize individuals from all over San Rafael in a formal way. ANALYSIS: The following recipients epitomize the notion of giving back to the community and deserve Council recognition for their efforts on behalf of the City of San Rafael: Andree Jansheski, one of the San Rafael Clean Coalition's most tireless and dedicated volunteers; Pam Dixon and Karen Neilsen, two Library volunteers who have been a critical part of the library's success and community outreach; and Mark Lubamersky who has volunteered extensively for the City and community in a variety of capacities. FOR CITY CLERK ONLY File No.: Council Meeting: Disposition: CITY OF SAN RAFAEL PRESENTS THIS RESO UTIUN UE flPPREVRTIUN M ANDREEJANSHESKI WHEREAS, Andree Jansheski started her mission against litter in her own front yard at the Bellam Self Storage and Boxes, soon spreading the word to neighboring businesses; and WHEREAS, Andree has been an inspiration to many surrounding her community including the Main Post Office on Bellam Boulevard, working with the City and others to add extra trash cans for public use; and WHEREAS, her latest contribution to the San Rafael Clean Campaign is spearheading a campaign to enlist businesses throughout the City to sign on to help reduce litter; and WHEREAS, she has been a stellar example for the San Rafael Clean Business Partners Project, donating time and money to the cause. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby commend Andree Jansheski for her tireless and selfless efforts on behalf of the City of San Rafael. COUNCIL MEMBERS CITY MANAGER ATTESTED BY MY HAND THIS DAY OF CITY OF SAN RAFAEL PRESENTS THIS RESO UTION UE RPPREEIRTION TO PAM DIXON WHEREAS, Pam Dixon has transformed the San Rafael Library with her professional leadership skills, serving two terms as President and twice as Vice President of Friends of the Library and has been co-chair of the Book Sale Committee for more than five years; and WHEREAS, Pam has been an integral force in the launching and running of Friends Books, turning an empty space into an attractive, functioning bookstore, which earned a month's rent in the first two days of operation; and WHEREAS, she continues to spend many hours working to increase the financial support of Friends of the Library, which provides for literary programming and materials; and WHEREAS, Pam has helped advance the premise that books and reading are enjoyable, fun and here to stay. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby commend Pam Dixon for her tireless and selfless efforts on behalf of the City of San Rafael. COUNCIL MEMBERS CIN MANAGER ATTESTED BY MY HAND THIS DAY OF CITY OF SAN RAFAEL PRESENTS THIS RESOUITION OF flPPRECIRTION TO MARK LUBAMERSKY WHEREAS, Mark Lubamersky has been a member of the San Rafael Parks and Recreation Commission, the Critical Facilities Committee, and has twice been co-chair of the General Plan 20/20 Steering Committee; and WHEREAS, he participates in and coordinates activities and fundraisers for Coleman Elementary School, including being President of Coleman's Dad's Club; and WHEREAS, Mark is a dedicated teacher and a Board member of the San Rafael Little League; and WHEREAS, through being an active member and several times President of the Bret Harte Neighborhood Association, Mark has built a strong connection to City Hall, has coordinated events and volunteers, and has served as the main source of information and communication in the neighborhood. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby commend Mark Lubamersky for his tireless and selfless efforts on behalf of the City of San Rafael. ATTESTED BY MY HAND THIS DAY OF COUNCIL MEMBERS CITY MANAGER CITY OF SAN RAFAEL PRESENTS THIS RESO UTIUN UE 11PPRECIRTION KAREN NIELSEN WHEREAS, Karen Nielsen has served as a Friends of the Library Board member, book sorter, and book sales Assistant Chair before becoming the organization's President one year ago; and WHEREAS, Karen has been an invaluable contributor to the preparation and completion of turning an empty space in downtown San Rafael into an attractive, functioning bookstore which in the first two days of operation, earned the first month's rent; and WHEREAS, she has spent many hours volunteering at the library in addition to representing the Friends of the Library on the "One Book, One Marin" committee, a countywide effort to promote interest in libraries and reading; and WHEREAS, Karen is dependable, enthusiastic and reliable in every aspect of her job. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby commend Karen Nielsen for her tireless and selfless efforts on behalf of the City of San Rafael.
