DATE 1 - -} u SIGNATURE: Filing Deadline: Date: Tuesday, March 9, 2004 Time: 12 Noon City Clerk's Office, Room 209, City Hall Mr. Charles 1. Daniels, Jr. San Rafael, CA 94901 February 24, 2004 Dear Mayor and Members of the City Council It is my pleasure to again apply for and to continue my service as a Fire Commissioner in the City of San Rafael. For the past 14 years I have served on the Fire Commission, the last 10 years as Chairman. have enjoyed watching the department grow in professionalism and stature in our community and the State of California. As we know, our department is considered one of the top departments in the state in the area of community service, and is the pride of our city. In 1990 our department responded to 4781 calls averaging 13 calls per day. In 2003 we responded to almost 6600 calls averaging 18 per day, a 38% increase. We now have a new young Fire Chief with a very impressive resume. I am sure that his knowledge and enthusiasm will bring us to even higher acclaim from our peers in County and State. My wish would be to work with the new Chief and help the commission assist him in any helpful way. My own background of over 50 years involvement in the public safety field for the City of San Rafael and the County of Marin hopefully will be of some assistance to our new E ief.
