RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF SURVIVAL,
INC. IN ITS INVOLVEMENT IN AND DEDICATION TO
THE PRESERVATION OF MARIN COUNTY'S UNIQUE EN-
VIRONMENT.
WHEREAS, the people of Marin County dispose of an estimated 236,000
tons of solid waste per year at a cost of over $2,000,000 per year to the pub-
lic for disposal fees and an inestimable cost to the environment in terms of
destruction of natural resources, both in the manufacture of the materials
and in their disposal.
WHEREAS, SURVIVAL, INC., a non-profit, mostly volunteer, Marin
County recycling organization:
1) Provides a more ecological alternative for the disposal
of common household solid waste by maintaining five re-
cycling depots where waste cans, aluminum cans, and non-
returnable glass containers are collected and delivered
to can and bottle manufactures to be remade into new con-
tainers;
2) Has recycled over 2,000 tons of steel, aluminum and glass
in its sixteen months of existence;
3) Has involved over 25,000 residents of Marin County in
positive environmental action;
4) Has served as an education center for the dissemination
of information about environmental issues and alternative
product consumption habits; and
5) Has served the citizens of San Rafael at its recycling
depots at Sir Francis Drake High School and Terra Linda
High School.
THEREFORE, THE SAN RAFAEL CITY COUNCIL wholeheartedly supports the
efforts of Survival, Inc., as well as its involvement in and dedication to
the preservation of Marin County's unique environment. The Council also urges
the citizens of the City of San Rafael to avail themselves of the services and
facilities of Survival, Inc.
I, MARION A. GRADY, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, California,
HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced
at a regular meeting of the Council of said City on the 19th day of June, 1972,
by the following vote, to wit:
