Nicolai, City Manager Betty Lessley, Secretary, San Rafael School District SPECIAL JOINT MEETING - File 9-1 x 9-2-1 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Ann Song-Hill, President, Dixie School Board. 2. MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL ARTICULATION Jerry Warren, Deputy Superintendent, San Rafael School District, reported there is a great deal of articulation going on at the individual schools, especially regarding curriculum development. Dr. Jeff Blackwell, Superintendent, San Rafael School district, also presented an overview of priorities within this program. 3. CHILD CARE FOR ALTERNATIVE CALENDAR Dr. Blackwell reported that several schools (Glenwood, San Pedro, Coleman and Bahia Vista) are considering an alternative schedule calendar. Glenwood School has begun preliminary research and will present the information at a public meeting on March 29, 1995. 4. MIDDLE SCHOOL ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM Dr. Blackwell reported that the San Rafael School Board has authorized the creation of an opportunity school for grades 6 through 9 to reach kids who might otherwise fall through the cracks. It will be used as a interim placement for those who need respite. John Childress, President, San Rafael School Board, will be working on this program. 5. UPDATE ON "KIDS COUNT!" San Rafael School Board Member John King reported on the progress of this campaign, noting volunteers and money are still needed. 6. JOINT HIRING OF A GRANT WRITER Dixie School Board Member Judy Tipple reported that the idea of hiring a grant writer has been discussed for many years. It was suggested that the District initially put up the money with the idea the writer would eventually pay for himself/herself from grants. It was also suggested that specific grant writers be hired for specific projects since they would be familiar with terminology and have a knowledge of the information required. 7. DISCUSSION OF USE OF NOVA ALBION SITE AS A LIBRARY SITE Ms. Tipple discussed the possibility of a library north of the hill for the use of high school students at night. It was also discussed that it would not cost the City any money for the students to access the City's computer lines. 8.ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:10 PM.
