REPORT FROM LIBRARY DIRECTOR
Facility Updates
Noll & Tam continues work on the research phase of our facilities project and will be taking over
the “health of the Downtown Library” assessment. The Downtown Library’s HVAC system has
sprung a number of leaks that we are dealing with as they arise.
Library Trustee Recruitment
The City is planning to hold interviews on April 16th.
Diverse Books
The Pickleweed Library’s Books Beyond Borders tween book club celebrated its two year
anniversary. The club reads books from around the world and experiences cultural food and
crafts from each location.
The #StyleTeam
The Library has been working on more cross-division team-based projects, including the Style
Team—a team dedicated to improving wayfinding and user experiences in our libraries. The
team recently went on a field trip to a few Peninsula Libraries to get inspiration.
Margaret Stawowy: Employee of the Quarter
Downtown Children’s Librarian Margaret Stawowy was chosen as the City of San Rafael’s
Employee of the Quarter for the 4th quarter of 2017. This is a much deserved award and the
whole Library team couldn’t be more proud of Margaret.
Volunteer Appreciation Party
Library staff hopes you can join us at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Party on Friday, April
13th from 6-7:30.

Public Comment at Library Board of Trustees Meetings
The City Attorney’s Office advises that per California Government Code 59553.3c, legislative
bodies (such as the Library Board of Trustees) must give the public the opportunity to directly
address the body either before or during the legislative body’s consideration of agenda items.
Unless directed by City Council to do otherwise, the Library Board of Trustees will continue to
allow public comment at the beginning of every meeting on items both on and not on the agenda.
National Library Week 2018
This week both libraries celebrated National Library Week as well as National Library Workers
Day, which is today.
Zip Books Project
Today the Library soft-launched the Zip Books project, a California State Library and Califa
project. Zip Books is a way for customers to request books that the Library doesn’t own and the
item is shipped directly to the customer via Amazon Prime. More information is available on the
library website at https://srpubliclibrary.org.
ADJOURNMENT
Meeting adjourned at 6:38pm.
