Proclamation
Presented to
Tom Obletz
WHEREAS, Tom Obletz has served on the Park and Recreation Commission for the City of San
Rafael for 8 years from 2012 – 2020; and
WHEREAS, Tom served in an advisory capacity to the City as a Park and Recreation
Commissioner and became the face of the Park and Recreation Commission,
attending numerous park tours and neighborhood events and taking great pride in
representing the City of San Rafael; and
WHEREAS, Tom served under Mayor Phillips, several City Councilmembers and two City
Manager’s (Mackle & Schutz), and provided advice to two Directors of the
Community Services Department (McCart & Andrade-Wax) during his tenure; and
WHEREAS, Tom provided advice and insight in relation to a variety of projects and initiatives
that included major improvements to the Terra Linda Community Center Pool, the
renovation of Victor Jones Park, Pickleweed Park and Albert Park Playground(s),
the revitalization of the City’s Beach Park through a lease agreement with Terrapin
Crossroads, implementation of the City’s first “Porchfest” community event,
upgrades to many neighborhood parks, as well as other Measure A park related
projects; and
WHEREAS, Tom served the City of San Rafael with the grace of a diplomat and the honesty
that comes from great integrity; making certain along the way that each solution
advanced and improved the quality of life in San Rafael.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, KATE COLIN, Mayor of San Rafael, do hereby proclaim my sincere
appreciation to
Tom Obletz
for his important contributions and community service to the City of San Rafael.
