Tamalapias and in west Marin Our Mission: To manage our natural resources in a sustainable manner and to provide reliable, high-quality drinking water at a reasonable price. Marin Water Overview 100% Locally Sourced Water: o 75% from reservoirs on Mt. Tamalpais and in west Marin o 25% from Sonoma County’s Russian River water system The journey from our reservoirs to your tap takes about 24 hours Along the way, your water is tested, treated, and monitored to ensure you have the freshest, high-quality water delivered to your home or business, for about a penny per gallon. Your Water Supply 2020 was the second-driest year in 90 years Only 20 inches of rain fell at Lake Lagunitas in 2020. Current rainfall is tracking at less than 40% of historical average for this time of year Current reservoir storage capacity: o 56% total storage capacity o We typically see an average of 90% storage capacity this time of year Your Water Supply February 16: Marin Water’s Board of Directors approved a resolution declaring a drought and asking all customers to voluntarily conserve water Conservation Goal: 20% to 25% reduction in demand Substantial rainfall is also needed to improve storage capacity Without significant amounts of rain and customer conservation, mandatory restrictions may be needed Conservation Tips Turn off sprinkler systems and water plants by hand, only as needed Replace your lawn with water- efficient landscaping “Smart” irrigation controllers automatically adjust to local weather conditions and landscaping to provide just the right amount of water your plants need Don’t wash your car at home; use a carwash that recycles water instead Conservation Tips Graywater systems reuse water from your washer for irrigation Rain barrels and cisterns capture rain to reuse for outdoor irrigation Hold off refilling decorative fountains, pools and hot tubs Check for leaky toilets and faucets and fix them promptly Replace older washers with high-efficiency models Conservation Tips Use a broom rather than water to clean driveways and sidewalks Install shutoff nozzles for hoses and water -efficient showerheads and faucet aerators Simple adjustments to your daily routine also make a big difference: o Turn of the water while brushing your teeth o Take shorter showers o Only do dishes and laundry when you have a full load Marin Water’s Programs & Incentives Free phone conservation consultations to help find the programs and rebates that work best for you Free shutoff nozzles and water-efficient showerheads and faucet aerators Incentives to help you save water and save money include rebates for: o Lawn replacements o Smart irrigation controllers o Graywater kits o Rain barrels and cisterns o High-efficiency washers Water Conservation Resources Free conservation yard signs Conservation brochures to share with friends, family, employees and members of your organization Updated information about drought, conservation and rebates at: MarinWater.org/Conserve Join our Water Watch Team and report water waste at: MarinWater.org/Forms/Water-Waste -Report Give us a call: 415.945.1520 Email us: Conservation@MarinWater.org 12 Connect With Us MarinWater.org/Conserve Conservation@MarinWater.org 415.945.1520
