Name Braydan Young Kenneth Johnson Mark Yatman BACKGROUND: At the meeting of January 26, 2021, the City Council appointed Fire Commissioner Elias Hill to the office of City Councilmember which created a vacancy on the San Rafael Fire Commission which was set to expire in March 2021. The Fire Commission consists of five members and two alternate members who advise and support the goals and objectives of the San Rafael Fire Department. In concert with the Fire Chief, Fire Commission Members contribute their experience and expertise with department-related initiatives, such as Public Education and Information, Emergency Preparedness, support of the San Rafael Fire Foundation, Essential Facilities Project, Photography and documenting Fire Service History. AN ALYSIS: The deadline for submitting applications was February 17, 2021 and was left open until filled to receive additional applications. Since the deadline was extended in an effort to receive additional applications, the term of Elias Hill has lapsed and now staff SAN RAFAEL CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT / Page: 2 recommends appointing an applicant to the four-year term to March 2025. The City Clerk’s Office received three (3) applications. Staff recommends the City Council interview the three (3) eligible applicants and make an appointment to fill the one term. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this item. COMMUNITY OUTREACH: The call for applications for the Fire Commission was advertised through mass email notification, Canal Alliance, the City website, Nextdoor and Facebook social media platforms. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Interview the three applicants and make an appointment to fill one four-year term to the end of March 2025 on the Fire Commission. ATTACHMENT: 1. (#3) These involved primarily donation events for children around Christmas as well as food kitchen volunteering for the homeless. - Environmental Cleanup - I take part in a yearly cleanup of beaches within San Francisco to ensure plastics are not present to harm local wildlife - Charity Races - yearly we enjoy taking part in the ride for diabetes to ensure those with chronic conditions can afford care. Unfortunately many of these activities are cancelled this year but I look forward to reopening to help again.
