Tonight’s Objectives Third Street Project Prior TAM identifies Third Street as priority project 2017 City begins planning process 2017-2018 Community Meetings #1 &#2 2017-2018 Community &Technical Working Group Meetings June 2019 Feasibility Report Presented at City Council Aug.2020 Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee Meeting Sept.2020 Community Meeting #3 Nov.2020 Presentation to City Council for Update Dec.2020 Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee Meeting Feb.2021 Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee Meeting Mar.2021 Community Meeting #4 May 2021 Presentation to City Council for TAM funding Project History & Outreach Third Street Project 1.Improve safety for all bicyclists and pedestrians 2.Repair pavement and drainage 3.Improve pedestrian crossings and repair sidewalks 4.Upgrade traffic signals and provide safety lighting 5.Improve traffic flow for cars,transit,and emergency service 6.Add street trees 7.Enhance access for designated Safe Routes to Schools 8.Develop an economically viable project Project Goals Third Street Project 1.Provide bicycle and pedestrian access from Miracle mile to Miramar:maximized public right of way to balance multiple needs 2.Complete a bicycle connection all the way to West End,even if interim solution. 3.Maintain parking in residential zones:Revised initial Class 1 MUP to Class IV bikeway +sidewalk to maintain parking. 4.Lindaro/Lootens Intersection:Exit Only versus closing (Part of Third Street Safety Project) 5.Enhance accessibility and sidewalks:Raised intersections. Third Street Project Construction Process 1.About 18 months of construction 2.General sequence of work •Utilities –MMWD,sewer district •Retaining wall and median shift •PG&E relocation and undergrounding on Second St •Sidewalk and curb ramps •Traffic signals •Paving and striping •Street trees 3.Driveways will be closed for periods of up to 4 hours Both the City and contractor will outreach to residents and businesses during construction to provide advance notice of construction activities.
