HomeMy WebLinkAboutHR Women's History Month Proclamation City of San Rafael Proclamation in Recognition of WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH MARCH 1 – 31, 2024 WHEREAS, Each year, Women’s History Month offers an important opportunity for us to shine a light on the extraordinary legacy of trailblazing American women and girls who have built, shaped, and improved upon our nation; and WHEREAS, throughout history, through leadership, innovation, and ingenuity, generations of women have made significant contributions in science, medicine, technology, business, politics, government, entrepreneurship, and in arts and culture; and WHEREAS, many of the contributions from woman aren’t seen, highlighted, or acknowledged, but have been the fiber woven through families, neighborhoods, and communities: the mothers, grandmothers, aunts, cousins, friends who are called family, and supporters; and WHEREAS, the 2024 Women’s History Month theme is “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion,” we honor women who have been leaders in securing rights of suffrage and equal opportunity; and in the abolitionist, emancipation, industrial labor, civil rights, and peace movements, as well as those women who have supported others and tirelessly contributed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the daily lives they've lived; and WHEREAS, generations of women that knew their gender was no obstacle to what they could accomplish and have long stirred new ideas and opened new doors, having a profound and positive impact on our community; and despite their contributions, the role of women in history has been consistently overlooked and undervalued in literature, education, and culture. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby proclaim March 1 - 31, 2024, as Women’s History Month, recognizes the many accomplishments women have historically achieved and the many ongoing contributions they make to our society and our local community across Marin County and San Rafael.
