Proclamation
National Library Week - April 7 – 13, 2024
WHEREAS, in our always-online world, libraries give us an open and accessible place
to do something truly special: to connect with others, learn new skills,
and focus on what matters most; and
WHEREAS, libraries offer opportunities for everyone to explore new ideas through
access to digital content, emergent technologies, arts, literary,
educational and cultural programs – in addition to books; and
WHEREAS, libraries strive to develop and maintain programs and collections that are
as diverse as the populations they serve and ensure equity of access for
all; and
WHEREAS, libraries have long served as trusted and treasured institutions for all
members of the community regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, ability,
sexual orientation, gender identity, or socio-economic status; and
WHEREAS, throughout the different stages of life’s journey—preparing for a new
career, launching a business, or raising a family—the library provides an
inclusive and supportive community where everyone belongs; and
WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, and library workers are joining library supporters and
advocates across the nation to celebrate National Library Week.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, KATE COLIN, Mayor of San Rafael, hereby proclaim April 7
through 13, 2024 as National Library Week. During this week, I encourage all residents to
connect with their library by visiting any of the San Rafael libraries online or in person to
access resources and services.
