Proclamation in Celebration of
NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK 2024
WHEREAS, Public works professionals play a crucial role in maintaining and
improving essential infrastructure, facilities, and services for the
functioning of our community. Their work ensures that San Rafael can
provide essential services to residents while also promoting sustainability
and resilience in the face of numerous challenges like natural disasters,
climate change, and evolving community needs. Their dedicated efforts
contribute directly to public health, quality of life, and overall well-being
of the community members; and
WHEREAS, Public Works personnel are involved in the maintenance, planning, design,
and construction of streets, transportation facilities, parks, storm drains,
public buildings, and other structures and facilities essential for our
residents as well as right-of-way management; and
WHEREAS, Public Works personnel are essential workers who continue to work hard
every day to keep our community safe and functional and serve as crucial
first responders in emergencies; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest for community members, civic leaders, and
children in the City of San Rafael to gain knowledge of and to maintain an
ongoing interest in and understanding of the importance of public works
and public works programs in their respective communities; and
WHEREAS, the year 2024 marks the 64th annual National Public Works Week sponsored
by the American Public Works Association; and
WHEREAS, the 2024 National Public Works theme is “Advancing Quality of Life for
All,” expressing how public works professionals contribute to and enhance
the quality of life in all the communities they proudly serve;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Rafael, Hereby Proclaims the week of
May 19-25, 2024, as National Public Works Week; and furthermore calls upon all community
members and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the issues involved in providing
our public works and to recognize the contributions which public works personnel make every
day to protecting our health, safety, comfort, and quality of life.
