Open Time for Public Expression The public is welcome to address the Fire Commission at this time on matters not on the agenda that are within its jurisdiction. Please be advised that pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, the Fire Commission is not permitted to discuss or take action on any matter not on the agenda unless it determines that an emergency exists, or that there is a need to take immediate action which arose following posting of the agenda. Comments may be no longer than two minutes and should be respectful to the community. 2. Approval of Minutes – September 11, 2024 Recommended Action: Amend and or approve as submitted. 3. Fire Foundation – Verbal Update from Commissioner Donna McCusker Recommended Action: Accept Verbal Report and take appropriate action. 4. 150th Anniversary Sub Committee – Verbal Update from Commissioner Chung Recommended Action: Accept Verbal Report and take appropriate action. 5. Current Media Coverage Protecting Those Who Protect Us – Marin Magazine 6. No action to be taken on these items. 7. Fire Chief Report Informational only. No action to be taken. CITY OF SAN RAFAEL FIRE COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. In person meeting at 1375 Fifth Ave, San Rafael, CA 94901 The meeting was called to order at 4:00p.m. by Chair Burford Present: Chair Stan Burford Commissioner David Fonkalsrud Commissioner John Chung Commissioner Brian Waterbury Commissioner Donna McCusker Commissioner Ken Johnson Chief Roman Thomas Wong Chief Sinnott 1. Open Time for Public Expression No public Comment. 2. Approval of Minutes – August 8, 2024 Chair Burford asks if there are any corrections or objections, hearing none, the minutes are adopted unanimously. 3. Fire Foundation – Verbal Update from Commissioner Donna McCusker The Fire Foundation is starting early and asking for donations now for the upcoming Crab Feed. Chair Burford asks if the Foundation can come and provide the Commission an update 4. 150th Anniversary Sub Committee – Verbal Update from Commissioner Chung Commissioner Chung says the open house at FS54 went well on Sunday. Want to have an open house at 51 and to do a celebration for the 150th on Sunday, December 15. A request for assistance with a pop-up history exhibit at the open house. 5. Current Media Coverage Article about a burn box. Chief Roman says San Rafael has looked into it but it is expensive and we currently pay contractors to remove the material off site. DR A F T 6. Chair and Commission Member Reports: • Ken Johnson says he was at Mt Kilimanjaro and the #1 issue is wildfire prevention and they do a lot of work to mitigate it. They do a lot of controlled burns. • Stan Burford– Chair: No report. • David Fonkalsrud- Vice Chair: No report. • Donna McCusker: No report • John Chung: Went to Ember Stomp and was impressed and shout out to Sara and the team • Brian Waterbury: No report. 7. Fire Chief Report Chief Sinnott’s Report: • Well attended station 52 and 54 open houses. • A number of incidents occurred including two fires behind St. Vincents. Meeting adjourned at 4:52 PM DR A F T
