RESOLUTION NO. �✓ RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA MARINE AFFAIRS CONFERENCE RECOMMENDATIONS RELATING TO CONGRESSIONAL APPROPRIATIONS WHEREAS, the high growth rate of Northern California continues unabated, and imposes on the region and its communities great responsibility for assuring a level of economic expansion sufficient to absorb and accommodate this burgeoning population; and WHEREAS, the region's historic development was largely determined by the availability of navigable harbors and waterways, and the improvement of these facilities by Federal, State and local governments and private interests has sub- stantially contributed to the maintenance of a high level of growth and prosperity, need for accelerating this progress is increasingly obvious; and WHEREAS, retention of present industry - and its expansion and new development - will to a great extent be determined by the competitive nature of transportation available, of which inland waterways and deepwater facilities have always offered prime advantages; and WHEREAS, the region's foreigh commerce - totaling $1,230 million last year - domestic shipping and the many ancillary activities generated by adequate waterways, including commercial fishing and recreational use, substantially benefit all residents, directly and indirectly; and WHEREAS, the Northern California Marine Affairs Conference has officially designated membership from throughout the region, and has given full and careful study to a program of orderly, efficient and economical development of its navigable waterway system; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City of San Rafael that the Conference's recommendations relating to Congressional appropriations for study, construction and maintenance of regional navigation projects are hereby endorsed and supported. RESOLVED, FURTHER, that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Clem Miller, to the Honorable Clair Engle and Thomas H. Kuchel, United States Senators, and to the Northern California Marine Affairs Conference. 1, W. L.
