HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 2781RESOLUTION N0. 2781 RESOLUTION ENDORSING MARINE AFFAIRS CONFERENCE RECOMMENDATIONS WHEREAS, the phenomenal growth rate of Northern California in the post - World War II era has continued for another year without lessening, and imposes still greater responsibility on the region and its communities to assure economic expansion sufficient to absorb this heavy increase of population and of the labor force; and WHEREAS, navigable waterways have provided the original impetus for much of our growth by providing access to the hinterland and rich natural resources, and for their efficient shipment, export and distribution; and WHEREAS, the need to further study, improve andmaintain these arteries and harbors - as has been the responsibility of the Federal, State and local governments - increases with our demands on water-bovne commerce since retention and expansion of our industries will to a large degree be dependent on the economical transportationaafforded by modern -sized channels and ports; and WHEREAS, the importance of this commerce is testified to by 1962 world commerce of the region exceeding $1,300,000,000, plus the value of domestic shipments, our important fishing industry, ancillary activities generated by this huge volume of ships and cargoes, and burgeoning recreational use of the waterways; and WHEREAS, the region and its communities are represented by officially - designated participation in the Northern California Marine Affairs Conference, which annually gives careful study to navigational needs for orderly and efficient maintenance, expansion and improvement of our waterways; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL that the Marine Affairs Conference's recommendations for Congressional appropriations for the Fiscal Year 1964 for study, planning and construction and maintenance of our region's navigation projects are hereby endorsed and supported. RESOLVED, FURTHER, that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Donald Clausen and to the Honorable Clair Engle and Thomas H. Kuchel, United States Senators. I, W. L. MORGAN, Clerk of the City of San Rafael hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of said City held on Monday, the 15th day of April, 1963, by the following vote, to -wit: AYES: Councilmen Aby, Jensen, Baar and Mayor McInnis NOES: None ABSENT: None d W.
