RESOLUTION ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING THE MARIIE AFFAIRS
CONFERENCE,RECOrIMENDATIONS FOR CONGRESSIONAL AUTHORIZA-
TIONS AND;APPROPRIAfIONS FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1965-66.
WHEREAS, growth in every category continues unabated in Northern California,
and requires the maximum efforts of labor, industry and government
to assure expansion of the economy to sustain and absorb the heavy
increase in population and working force; and
WHEREAS, navigation offers through improved and expanded channels and harbors
a proven means to increase commerce, world trade and to spur industrial
growth; and
WHEREAS, nature combines to present California with relatively few natural
sanctuaries for shipping and small craft, and the periodic, excessive
forces of rains, storms and tidal waves, rendering even more important
the creation and improvement of coastal harbors; and
WHEREAS, our region's foreign commerce exceeded $1.5 billion last year, to which
should be added the substantial contributions made by domestic waterborne
commerce, our fishing fleets, heavy use of channels for military purposes,
and the continuing growth of recreational boating; and
WHEREAS, the Marine Affiars Conference has represented the region for nine years
in the study, review and recommendation of navigation projects for the
orderly and efficient development of our waterways;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
that the Conference's recommendations for Congressional authorizations
and appropriations for the coming fiscal year are hereby endorsed and
supported.
RESOLVED, FURTHER, that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable
Don Clausen, Congressman, and to the Honorable Thomas H. Kuchel and
George Murphy, United States Senators.
I, C. W. CORNWELL, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that the
foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular
