HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 3707RESOLUTION N0. 3707; RESOLUTION URGING THE LEGISLATURE TO INCREASE PENALTY FOR ATTACKS ON PEACE OFFICERS WHEREAS, there have been many incidents whereby Officers of the Law have been attacked, hurt, and even killed while on duty; and WHEREAS, the Penal Code at present designates a minimum one year sentence, which is inadequate; and WHEREAS, when such incidents reach the Courts, they are delayed by cases of lesser consequence, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature be re- quested to make the minimum sentence five years and when the death of an officer is involved, these cases take priority over other cases so that as swift justice as is pos.si;ble commensurate with due process of law, be meted out to such defendants. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolution be sent to Senator John F. McCarthy and Assemblyman William T. Bagley, requesting their support for such legislation and to cooperate with Assemblyman Kent Stacey of the 28th District, who has been asked by the City Council of Tehachapi to propose such a bill.
