HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1004RESOLUTION NO. 1004 RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR SUBMISSION OF PROPOSED AMENVIJENTS TO Ti;F CHARTER OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL, CALIFORNIA, TO THE ELECTROS OF SAID CITY, AND DIRECT& ING PUBLICATION OF PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENTS. WHEREAS the Charter Committee heretofore appointed by the Council of the Cita of San Rafael, California, to study the Charter of said City for the purpose of suggesting proposed, amendments thereto, has prepared and presented to said City Council a draft of proposed amendments to the Charter of said City; WHEREAS said City Council, in joint sessions with the City Attorney of said City, has made a complete study of the Char- ter of said City and of said proposed amendments, in order to determine the fitness, necessity and csompatability of said proposed amendments; YMEREAS the City Attorney of said City has, pursuant to the direction of said City Council, co-ordinated, re -drafted and re -engrossed said proposed Charter amendments and said City Council is of the opinion and does hereby find and determine that said City Council shouldp on its own -motion, publish and submit to the electors of said City, adoption or rejection by them, the said proposed Charter amendmants as finally engrossed by said City Attorney, a copy of which proposed amendments is annexed hereto and made a part of this Resolution and said.City Council has fully read, examined and considered the same;, WHEREAS a general election will be hold In the County of Varin, including and in said City, on Tuesday, the 7th day of November, 1944, and said City Council proposes and intends to proviee for and cause to be held a special ffianieipal election in said City on said date for the purpose of submitting said proposed Charter amendments to the electors of said City; -1- 44TEREAS section 8 of Article XI of the Constitution of the State of California requires that such proposed Charter amendments shall be published in the official newspaper of said City, or if none, in a newspaper of general circulation therein, at least once, not less than forty days #or more than sixty days from the date of said election; NOVI, THEREFORE, it is hereby ORDERED, RESOLVED and DETERMINED by said City Council of the City of San Rafael, Calif- )Iornia, that said City Council shall, upon its own motion, submit said proposed Charter amendments to the electors of said City for their adoption or rejection at a special municipal election to be held therein on Tuesday, the 7th day of November, 1944; It is further ORDERED and RESOLVED that said Charter amendments shall be publislied once in full in the San Rafael Independent, the Marin Journal, newspapers of general circulation, printed, published and circulated in said City and hereby designated as the official newspapers of said City it* for the purpose of making said publication; It is further RESOLVED that the City Clerk of said City be and he is hereby authorized and directed, in behalf of said City Council, as the legislative body of said City, to cause said proposed Charter amendments to be so publisUed in said Newspapers not less than forty -days nor more than sixty -days prior to said 7th day of November, 1944.
