Honorable William A. dock
Mayor, City of San Rafael
City Hall
San Rafael, California
Dear 11ayor Plock:
This is to advise that representatives of the American Legion Post
in your City have approached this office relative to the possibility of
the Legion acquiring by purchase the above referenced -recreation facili-
ties located at Fourth and Fury Streets in San Rafael. Now that the
war has been terminated it is deemed to be to the best interests of the
Government to dispose of the facilities which were constructed for the
purpose of meeting the war time need.
Since the City of San Rafael was the Applicant for this project
and conveyed fee title of the land to the Government for the sum of
one dollar, first opportunity should be given to the City in disposing
of these facilities. Before giving any further consideration to the
interest expressed by representatives of the Legion, we would appreciate
your advising us as to whether the City is interested in purchasing these'
facilities and if so, a reasonable offer should be submitted in the form
of a resolution by your Council at an early date. For your information,
the cost to the Government of the real property and furnishings is
approximately $57,300.
It should be understood that the sale of this property would, of
course, be subject to the continuance of present operations by the USO
until such time as it has been determined by the USO that the war need
has been met.
In the event the City is not interested in making a reasonable offer 9
for the facilities, an expression to that effect would be appreciated and
also we would like to know the attitude of the Council with respect to a
continuancc of ncgctiation-- rri is the American Legion.
iA A prompt reply would be greatl appreciated.
Y ' f4P Very truly yours,
crti• n, David Oliver
