WHEREAS, it appears that the public interest and
iecessity of the Toll Road leading into the Muir Woods
National Monument, in the County of Diarin, be taken 'over by
the State of California, and ;-same., be inducted into the state
highway system, and,
! HEREAS, MUIR WOODS NATIONAL MONT ENT comprises 426
acres and is surrounded on three sides by a state park of
approximately 992 acres.. containing therein the most beauti-
ful stand of redwood trees in the world) togather with the
most beautiful natural scenery one can have any conception
of , and,
WHEREAS, that for the small amount of money required
in taking over this toll road as compared to the great amount
of good it will accomplish, and the service rendered the public,
taking into consideration that thousands of people from all
over the United States, and hundreds from foreign countries
visit this beautiful park each -year, and,
WHEREAS, this being the only national park or monum-
ent in the entire United States in which the public has to
ply a toll to private interests for access thereto, we feel
it is a "blot" against the states progress . Therefore be it -
RESOLVED, that the legislative;Aodies ofvthe State of
California, in their 1935 session of the legislature, take
the necessary steps to have the Mmir 'Moods Toll Road taken
into the state highway system,

fornia, and the same be inducted into the State Highway
System, and
7HE EAS, Muir Woods National Monument comprises 436 acres,
and is surrounded on three sides by a State Park of approxi-
matley 992 acres, containing therein the most beautiful
stand of redwood trees in the world, together with the most
beautiful natural scenery one can have any conception of, and,
1AHEREAS, that for the small amount of money required in taking
over this toll road as compared to the great amount of good
it will accomplish, and the service rendered the public,
tsking into consideration that thousands of people from all
over the United States, and hundreds from foreign countries
visit this beautiful park each year, and,
VVHEREAS, this being the only National Park or Monument
in the entire United States in which the public has to pay
a toll to private interests for access thereto, we feel it
is a "blot" against the State's progress,
T1 EREF(E E BE IT RES CLVED, that the legislative bodies of the
State of California, in their 1935 session of the legislature,
take the necessary steps to have the Muir Woods Toll Road
taken into the State Highway System.
It is hereby certified that the Council of the City of
San Rafael adopted the foregoing resolution on the 1st day
of April, 1935.
