HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Marin-Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Control District PPTMarin/Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Control District 2024 Annual Report Peter Bonkrude, MS- District Manager Brief History…. •Early 1900s: The San Rafael Improvement Club is in charge of mosquito control •1903-1905- Research on salt marsh mosquitoes was conducted in Marin County •November 6, 1915: The first district in California is formed: Mosquito Abatement District No.1, also known as the Marin Mosquito Abatement District (MAD) •1976 Annexed Central Sonoma and its surrounding areas •1995: MAD changes its name to Marin/Sonoma Mosquito and Vector Control District •Now serve 763,000 residents in both Marin and Sonoma County Agency at a glance •36 Fulltime Employees •6-8 Seasonal Employees •24 Trustees (Independent Board Members) •Covers two counties, nearly 2,300 square miles •$12.1M Annual Budget for 2024-2025 Programs and Services •Mosquito control •Mosquitofish •Yellowjacket control •Surveillance for adult mosquitoes, ticks, and pathogens •Rodent control advice and inspections •School presentations – grades K – 8 •Insect Identification What is Integrated Vector Management (IVM)? Emerging species of mosquito such as the Yellow Fever & Asian Tiger mosquitoes could bring the threat of new diseases.
