Approve regular meeting minutes of February 5, 2025 Member Tanchez moved and Member Ruiz seconded, to approve the meetings minutes of February 5, 2025. AYES: Members: Campos, Nguyen, Ruiz, Tanchez, Yost NOES: Members: None ABSENT: Members: Sprague, Vasquez ABSTAINED: Members: None Minutes approved as submitted. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC 2. Public Comment from the audience regarding items not listed on the agenda None. MATTERS BEFORE THE COMMITTEE If necessary, to assure completion of the following items, the Chairperson may establish time limits for the presentations by individual speakers. 3. Presentations: A. Special Presentation – Steve Mason, Senior Supervisor Chair Mason announced that Louise Yost has been on the Pickleweed Advisory Board for 23 years and that this would be her last official meeting due to her reaching the term limit. Mr. Mason shared some of the highlights of the work Louise has done for the Committee, and presented Louise with a certificate of appreciation. 4. Summer Co-Sponsorship Application Committee Recommendations A. Marin YMCA: YMCA Summer Camp @ Al Boro Community Center Chair Mason gave an overview of the YMCA Summer Camp co-sponsorship request. Staff and representatives responded to questions from the members. Public comments: None Member Ruiz moved and Member Yost seconded, to approve Marin YMCA Summer Camp @ Al Boro Community Center AYES: Members: Campos, Nguyen, Ruiz, Tanchez, Yost 3 NOES: Members: None ABSENT: Members: Sprague, Vasquez ABSTAINED: Members: None B. The Canal Alliance/ACCESS U Foundation: Canal FC Chair Mason gave an overview of the Canal Alliance/ACCESS U Foundation: Canal FC Staff and representatives responded to questions from the members. Public comments: None Member Yost moved and Member Tanchez seconded, to approve the Canal Alliance/ACCESS U Foundation: Canal FC fee waiver. Vivalon: Zumba by Vivalon Chair Mason gave an overview of the Vivalon Zumba co-sponsorship request. Mr. Mason introduced Rebekah Wilson who presented their co-sponsorship application. Drawbridge: Weekly Expressive Art Groups Chair Mason gave an overview of the Drawbridge Weekly Expressive Art Groups. Mr. Mason introduced Kathleen Keating who presented their co-sponsorship application. Staff and representatives responded to questions from the members. Public comments: None C. Troop 2000: Scouts BSA Chair Mason gave an overview of the Troop 2000 Scouts BSA co-sponsorship application. Mr. Mason introduced William Coronado who presented their co- sponsorship application. Staff and representatives responded to questions from the members. 4 Public comments: None D. Torogoz con Voz Music Academy Chair Mason gave an overview of the Torogoz con Voz Music Academy co-sponsorship application. Mr. Mason introduced Oscar Guardado who presented their co- sponsorship application. Staff and representatives responded to questions from the members. Public comments: None E. The Canal Arts: The Canal Arts Family Art Saturdays and Mural Art Workshop Chair Mason gave an overview of The Canal Arts Family Art Saturdays and Mural Art Workshop. Mr. Mason introduced Rich Storek who presented their co-sponsorship application. Staff and representatives responded to questions from the members. Public comments: None F. Marin YMCA: YMCA 2025/2026 Afterschool Program Chair Mason gave an overview of the Marin YMCA 2025/2026 Afterschool Program co- sponsorship application. Mr. Mason introduced Bethel Gebreyesus who presented their co-sponsorship application. Staff and representatives responded to questions from the members. Public comments: None G. Tamalpais Adult School: English as a Second Language Classes Chair Mason gave an overview of the Tamalpais Adult School English as a Second Language Classes co-sponsorship application. Mr. Mason introduced Sue Hall who presented their co-sponsorship application. Staff and representatives responded to questions from the members. Public comments: None H. Raices Del Canal/Marin Link: Raices Del Canal Chair Mason gave an overview of the Raices Del Canal/Marin Link co-sponsorship application. Mr. Mason introduced Yavar Amidi who presented their co-sponsorship 5 application. Staff and representatives responded to questions from the members. Public comments: None COMMITTEE REPORTS AND COMMENTS 6. Other brief reports on any meetings, conferences, and/or seminars attended by the Board members. Member Ruiz was invited to attend the Voices de Canal meeting in March. They have new members and were interested to know what she has been involved in. STAFF COMMENTS 7. Updates and Events of Interest: Chair Mason provided the following updates: Due to the rainy weather, our Drop In Indoor Pickleball season was extended through April 4th. Pickleweed Park Enhancement Project is moving along nicely and we are still shooting for a summer opening. Pickleweed Library renovation is currently scheduled to start at the end of August. The Canal Youth & Family Council will hold their annual Egg Hunt in the Gymnasium on Saturday, April 12th at 10 am. The Center held a Facebook and in person ballot poll to select the October Movie in the Park and the clear winner was, MUFASA. Pickleweed’s movie is always shown in Spanish with English subtitles. Prior to the movie we plan to host a community outreach event again this year. Annual Report to Park and Recreation Commission 6 pm, Thursday, April 17th At our June meeting, in addition to voting on the proposals we received this evening, we may be receiving an update on the Pickleweed Preschool and a proposal on historical signage along the waterfront path ending here at the park at the new mural on the front of the Center.
