AN ORDINANCE TO BE KNOWN AS THE ELECTRICAL CODE OF THE CITY
OF SAN RAFAEL,, CALIFORNIA, CREATING THE OFFICE OF CHIEF EL-
ECTRICAL INSPECTOR, PRESCRIBING HIS DUTIES, PROVIDING FOR
THE ISSUANCE OF ELECTRICAL PERMITS AND FOR INSPECTIONS AND
FIXING THE FEES THEREFOR; REGULATING THE INSTALLATION, AR-
RANGEMENT, ALTERATION, REPAIR, MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF
ELECTRIC WIRING, ELECTRIC FIXTURES, AND OTHER ELECTRICAL AP-
PLIANCES AND EQUIPMENT IN THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL; PROVIDING
A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF THE SAME AND ADOPTING THE
UNIFORM ELECTRICAL CODE, 1947 EDITION, PUBLISHED BY THE PA-
CIFIC COAST ELECTRICAL BUREAU, BY REFERENCE; REPEALING ALL
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, AMENDING CERTAIN SECTIONS
OF SAID CODE AND ADDING NEVI SECTIONS THERETO
The City Council of the City of San Rafael, California, do
hereby ordain as follows:
Section 1: CHIEF ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR: CREATION.
There is hereby created and established the office of CHIEF ELECTRICAL
INSPECTOR for the City of San Rafael, California, whose authority and
duties shall be as set forth and contained in the Uniform Electrical
Code hereinafter adopted by reference.
Section 2: All that certain "Uniform Electrical Code" so
entitled, published by the Pacific Coast Electrical Bureau, 1947 Edi-
tion, three copies of which, in printed book form, have been filed
and are now on file in the office of the City Clerk of said City
marked "filed" therein on the 6th day of October, 19479 for use and
examination by the public, is hereby adopted as the Uniform Electrical
Code of and for the City of San Rafael, California, to which reference
is hereby made with like effect as if all of the provisions and print-
ed matter therein were herein set forth in full.
Section 3: Except as hereinafter amended or added to, all
of the pages, titles, printed matter, indexes, parts, chapters, para-
graphs, sections, subsections, subdivisions, provisions, regulations
and penalties therein provided and contained are hereby adopted as
the rules and regulations for the government and regulation of the
installation, arrangement, alteration, repair, maintenance and

operation of the electrical wiring, electric fixtures and other
electric appliances and equipment in said city.
Section 4: The penalties for violation of any of the
provisions of this ordinance or of said Uniform Electrical Code
shall be as expressed and provided in said Code and in lieu of
the City Jail mentioned in Section 18 of said Code, the County Jail
of the County of Marin is hereby fixed as the place of imprisonment
for violation of said Code.
Section 5: Each of the matters and things in said Code
declared to be unlawful or in violation thereof is hereby declared
to be unlawful and in violation of said Code.
Section 6: Section 3 of said Code entitled "Fees for
Permits and Inspection" is hereby amended by changing and increas-
ing the figures 11.05" for wiring outlets at which current is used or
controlled except services, sub -feeders and meter outlets, to 11.10"
each;
Said Section 3 of said Code is further amended by adding
thereto at the end of the schedule of fees therein contained, the
following paragraphs, to wit:
Where work for which a permit is required by this
Code is started or proceeded with prior to obtaining said
permit, the fees above specified shall be doubled, but
the payment of such double fee shall not relieve any per-
sons from fully complying with the requirements of this
Code in the execution of the work nor from any penalties
prescribed herein;
For each meter in excess of one, for which a final
inspection certificate is required . . . $1.00.
Section 7: All ordinances and parts of ordinances in con-
flict herewith are hereby repealed.
Section 8: This ordinance shall be published once in full
before its final passage in THE MARIN JOURNAL, a weekly newspaper of
general circulation, printed, published and circulated in said city,
and shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days from and
after its final passage.
