SUMMMARY/BACKGROUND: In 1979 the citizens approved a Paramedic Tax based on a charge per living unit on residential units, and in 1988 they approved an extension of the tax to nonresidential properties. As provided by Section 3.28.060 of the Municipal Code, the Council will set the tax rate based upon a budget recommended by the City Manager. The recommended rate for 1988/89 is $23.10 per living unit and .02� per square foot for nonresidential properties. The rate in 1987/88 was $21.78 per living unit. 0/ xdf /.... ',,py�., ­)r,,6nating DpaL;mvnt �1 TO: APPRO D AS o- 4: Cit I,— Attorney (Signature} ORDINANCE 1433 (PARAMEDIC SERVICE SPECIAL TAX) AND SETTING THE PARAMEDIC TAX RATE FOR FISCAL YEAR 1988/89 FOR RESIDENTIAL AND NON-RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES DIVISION 1. Pursuant to Chapter 3.28, Section 3.28.060 thereof, the Council of the City of San Rafael does hereby increase the basic residential tax rate for paramedic service to $23.10 per living unit, and hereby sets a tax of $.02 per square foot on non- residential properties. DIVISION 2. The Council hereby determines that the basic tax rate shall be revised to cover the cost of providing paramedic service, based upon a budget recommended by the City Manager. DIVISION 3. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid, such holding or holdings shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of the ordinance. The Council declares that it would have passed this ordinance and each section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase thereof, irrespective of the fact that any one or more sections, subsections, sentences, clauses or phrases be declared invalid. DIVISION 4. This ordinance shall be published once in full before its final passage in a newspaper of general circulation, published and circulated in the City of San Rafael, and shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days after its final passage. iA n - WR_E N CE M U L �RY, � N �,Mayor Attest: JEAN 14NE M.
