RECOMMENDATION: Adopt an ordinance setting the Paramedic Tax rate for fiscal
year 1990/91.
SUMMARY/BACKGROUND: In 1979 the citizens approved a Paramedic Tax based on
a charge per living unit on residential units, and in 1988 they approved an
extension of the tax to nonresidential properties. As provided by Section
3.28.060 of the Municipal Code, the Council will set the tax based upon a
budget recommended by the City Manager. The recommended rate for 1990/91 is
$25.00 per living unit and $.022 per square foot for nonresidential
properties.
The rate is unchanged from 1989/90. Last year we had a special increase to
cover the one-time cost of the Defibrillation Program. We can now pay for
the ongoing costs this year without any further rate increase.
