REPORT TO MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
SUBJECT: PARAMEDIC TAX RATE
SUBMITTED BY. ., " `
APPROVED BY:.....
RANSOM COLEMAN, Finance Director City M""Q"r
DATE: August 7, 1991
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt an ordinance setting the Paramedic Tax rate for fiscal
year 1991/92.
SUMMARY/BACKGROUND: In 1979 the citizens approved a Paramedic Tax based on
a charge per living unit on residential units, and in 1988 they approved an
extension of the tax to nonresidential properties. As provided by Section
3.28.060 of the Municipal Code, the Council will set the tax based upon a
budget recommended by the City Manager. The recommended rate for 1991/92 is
$28.00 per living unit and $.025 per square foot for nonresidential
properties.
The rate for the last two years was $25 per unit for residential and 2.24,1 per
square foot for commercial. The rate last year was limited to $25 because
that was the maximum rate in the unincorporated area served by our Fire
Department. The unincorporated areas increased the limit last year at a
general election.
