SUBJECT: Report on bid opening and resolution awarding contract to Ghilotti Bros., Inc., in
an amount not to exceed $100,000.00 for City of San Rafael Sidewalk Replacement Contract
2003-2004, Project No 10723 (bid opening held on Thursday, May 8, 2003).
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the resolution
awarding the contract to Ghilotti Bros., Inc., for an amount not to exceed $100,000.00.
BACKGROUND:
Staff has performed a Citywide survey of the sidewalks, curb and gutter and driveways to
determine the areas in San Rafael that must be removed and replaced to eliminate offsets
(tripping hazards), which have been created due to City owned tree roots pushing up the concrete
and stormdrain pipes failing and causing the concrete to buckle.
In addition to the replacement of the sidewalks directly related to the offsets, a certain amount of
sidewalk abutting the construction will need to be replaced to achieve proper grade and maintain
drainage.
The new proposed work includes installing new sidewalk, curb and gutter, ADA ramps, and
driveways. It also includes removing street trees as needed and installing root guard barriers.
Bids for "City of San Rafael Sidewalk Replacement Contract 2003-2004" were opened on May
8, 2003.
