SAN RAFAEL CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
Department: Economic Development
Prepared by: Stephanie Lovette, Manager City Manager Approval:
SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing a Street Closure for the Annual Community Action Marin
Lighted Boat Parade on Yacht Club Drive on December 22, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve Resolution.
BACKGROUND:
Community Action Marin, (CAM) and the Marin County maritime community will celebrate the
beginning of the holiday season with its annual "Lighted Boat Parade" in the San Rafael Canal.
An estimated 80 to 100 beautifully lit boats will participate in this year's parade, expected to be
one of the largest ever.
For the 8t" consecutive year Community Action Marin has joined together with the San Rafael
Yacht Club, Marin Yacht Club, the Classic Yacht Association, and the Loch Lomond Yacht Club
to bring the residents of San Rafael and Marin County the largest lighted boat parade in
Northern California. A celebrity judging panel will determine "best boats" awards. TV and radio
personality Celeste Perry will MC this year's parade. Community Action Marin is proud to bring
this annual holiday event to Marin County in appreciation for 46 years of support from its
residents and local businesses.
This is the first time that the event has needed a street closure. Due to the traffic impact on
Yacht Club Drive, a closure at the west end of the road adjacent to the San Rafael Yacht Club
will provide space to assist parking and traffic flow for event. City Staff will over see the closure
and appropriate signage.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
ACTION REQUIRED: Approve the attached resolution.
