RECOMMENDATION: Receive presentation from the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. BACKGROUND: The San Rafael City Council forms commissions and committees to provide guidance to the City Council on community issues. At its 2014 Annual Retreat, the City Council requested that each of the commissions and committees provide an annual update to the City Council to improve communications and to assist with planning city-wide strategic goals. A brief summary of recent BPAC activities is attached to this staff report. The current Chair of the committee, Tim Gilbert, will provide an updated report during the meeting. Current members of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee are: Tim Gilbert (chair), Don Magdanz (vice -chair), DJ Allison, Jim Geraghty, Lindsay McKenzie, Kevin Hagerty, Kate Powers, Gerald Belletto (alternate), Rob Simon (alternate). We have received an application for the vacant youth member slot. The committee will interview that individual in September. FISCAL IMPACT: None. OPTIONS: 1) Receive the updated report 2) Direct staff to provide additional information ACTION REQUIRED: None ATTACHMENTS: Annual Report FOR CITY CLERK ONLY File No.: C: -.2- - Council Meeting: L, /I bLori Disposition: fa02L_ San Rafael BPAC Annual Report - 2014 Mission Statement: the goal of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee is to promote bicycling and walking as viable means of transportation throughout San Rafael; to provide conceptual input on public bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure projects; and to support the implementation of the City's Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. The Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan adopted by Council on April 4, 2011 added 32 new bicycle routes, including 6 miles of Class I facilities, 2 miles of Class II facilities and 2+ miles of Class III facilities. It also called for a number of pedestrian improvements, additional bicycle parking, school safety commute programs, and maintenance/educational programs. The overarching goal of the 2002 and 2011 plans, and that of the BPAC, is to make bicycle and pedestrian travel an integral part of daily life in San Rafael and to make San Rafael a model city for alternative modes of transportation. BPAC Membership: Chair: Tim Gilbert, Vice Chair: Don Magdanz Members and Alternates: DJ Allison, Jim Geraghty, Lindsay McKenzie, Kevin Hagerty (new member), Kate Powers, Gerald Belletto (alternate), Rob Simon, (new alternate). Members transitioned off the Committee in 2014: Sara Sonnet, martin Rayman, Preston McCoy. 2014 Highlights: • January 20, 2015 City Council approval of a substantive revision of the BPAC Charter supporting and facilitating active citizen participation in the development of non -motorized transportation in San Rafael.
