RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council interview the following applicants to fill four, four-year terms on
the Citizens Advisory Committee on Economic Development and Affordable Housing, with terms to expire
the end of June, 2017.

SUMMARY BACKGROUND:
At the meeting of May 20, 2013, the City Council called for applications to fill four, four-year terms to the
end of June, 2017, due to the expiration of terms of Phil Abey, Gladys Gilliland and Glen Koorhan and the
resignation of Diane Linn. Five applications were received by the deadline of Tuesday, July 2, 2013.

My reasons for desiring to serve are:
With the recent expansion of the BID, the implementation of additional programs for the
homeless, the SMART train, and an improving economy, opportunities for economic
development in the downtown area should grow significantly in the near term. I would like to
contribute meaningfully towards maximizing these opportunities and creating conditions that
allow our downtown to realize its fullest potential.
2. With professional expertise in both finance and real estate, I believe I can continue to make
important contributions to the work of the Committee. To date, I have been able to contribute by
serving as the Committee chairperson for two years (1993-94), as well as on the Rafael Theater
and PG&E site subcommittees, the Andersen Drive design subcommittee, the Macy's developer
selection committee, and with the Committee as a whole on the downtown station area plan.
3. As a resident of San Rafael and as an owner of downtown property, I take a strong interest in the
economic development and affordable housing issues facing this city. I would continue to work
to the best of my abilities to further the goals of this community and to offer sound advice.
