FRIENDS OF CHINA CAMP
WHEREAS, China Camp State Park in San Rafael is scheduled to close on July 1,
2012, due to State budget cuts; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of China Camp, a non-profit organization operating under the
auspices of the Marin State Parks Association, is proposing to operate the
park under recently -enacted state legislation; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of China Camp has demonstrated the capacity to raise the
needed funds and work cooperatively with California State Parks to
develop a viable, long-term plan for continued operation of the park; and
WHEREAS, China Camp is an irreplaceable community asset providing open space,
recreational opportunities, and important cultural history, and
WHEREAS, the closure of China Camp will have adverse environmental and economic
consequences for San Rafael.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the
City of San Rafael hereby extend their gratitude and support to the Friends of China
Camp in its efforts to ensure continued operation of China Camp Sate Park.
