Special Meeting: Present: Lawrence E. Mulryan, Mayor
Dorothy L. Breiner, Councilmember
Gary R. Frugoli, Councilmember
Jerry Russom, Councilmember
Absent: Richard Nave, Councilmember

1. INTERVIEWS OF THREE (3) EXECUTIVE SEARCH FIRMS FOR RECRUITMENT OF
CITY MANAGER - File 4-3-140 x 9-3-11 x 7-4 x 8-5
Council interviewed the firms of:
Korn/Ferry International
Ralph Andersen & Associates
Hughes, Heiss & Associates
$12,500 and expenses,
Robert Coop, Representative
$ 8,500 and expenses,
Ralph Andersen, Representative
$ 9,000 and expenses,
Richard Hughes & Richard W. Perry,
Representatives
At the conclusion of the interviews, Councilmembers discussed at length
the merits of each firm.
Of particular interest was the video demonstration made by the firm of
Hughes-Heiss. This would entail, in addition to submittal by candidates
of a resume' and self-assessment questionnaire, that a video tape would
be provided of the top ten (10) to fifteen (15) candidates. The video
tapes would be viewed by the Council after the resumeb and assessment
questionnaires have been discussed. A video tape would also be made
of each Councilmember for review by candidates.
After further discussion, Councilmember Breiner moved and Councilmember
Russom seconded, to select the firm of Hughes-Heiss and Associates as
the executive search firm for recruitment of a new City Manager.
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: Breiner, Frugoli, Russom and Mayor Mulryan
NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: None
ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: Nave
Council strongly indicated that Hughes-Heiss should focus on California
in their recruitment search.

2. CLOSED SESSION TO DISCUSS LABOR RELATIONS
Closed Session portion of the meeting was not held.
Meeting adjourned to the next regular meeting to be held on Monday,
February 4, 1985.
