PRESENTS THIS
RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION
TO
MA SLA HASTINGS
WHEREAS, in August 1990, the San Rafael City Council adopted policy RES -9 which stated that a
neighborhood plan should be prepared for the Montecito neighborhood, and in 1994 the
City Council directed the San Rafael Planning Department to begin work on the plan, and
WHEREAS, Marla Hastings, as the director of the Aldersly Retirement Community, was part of the
ad hoc Steering Committee which developed a short-term action -oriented neighborhood -
directed planning process, and
WHEREAS, Marla ensured the success of the kick-off April 29th Community Workshop by providing
Aldersly's attractive facilities for the meeting, arranging for delicious lunches for the
participants, and extending a sense of hospitality which carried over into following
neighborhood planning meetings, and
WHEREAS, Marla provided a model for successful neighborhood communication by offering neighbors
the opportunity to discuss in detail Aldersly's plans for an addition to the facility with
her and the project architect, and
WHEREAS, on October 25, 1995 the draft Mrnitecito/Happy Valley Neighborliood Plait was received
with enthusiasm by residents in the community, and
WHEREAS, on November 20, 1995, the Montecito/Nappy Valley Neighborhood Plan was introduced
to the City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael, on
behalf of all its citizens, hereby express sincere appreciation and gratitude to Marla
Hastings for her demonstration of generosity and commitment to the future of the
Montecito/Happy Valley neighborhood.
