RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
TO SPEND FUNDS TO REPLACE RADIO SYSTEM CABLE
WHEREAS, the Police Department's radio maintenance provider has
identified major damage to the cable running from City Hall to our
transmitter site on Dollar Hill that is causing serious transmission problems
with our radio system; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department has requested our
communications consultant to determine the alternatives to replacing this
cable as the damage presents an emergency situation if this cable fails
completely, our radio system will become inoperative; and,
WHEREAS, the best solution is to replace the complete cable
because we can't determine where or how the damage has occurred.
This cable was not part of the recent radio system installation, rather, it was
installed over fifteen (15) years ago, and
WHEREAS, because of the urgency in replacing this cable, now that
we have isolated the problem, the Police Department is requesting the City
Council's authorization to waive the formal bid process and allow the
communication consultant to obtain informal quotes to replace this cable.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Chief of Police is
authorized to retain the services of Jay Helms & Associates, original radio
system communication engineer, and to waive the formal bid process in
obtaining a competent under grounding contractor because of the
urgency nature in the replacement of this cable. The cost of this work is
not to exceed $40,000.00.
