SAN RAFAEL MEETING DATE: February 1, 2010
REPORT TO MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
SUBJECT: Approve Resolution Authorizing the Temporary Closure of City Streets for the Weekly Downtown
Farmers' Market Festival own Thursday Evenings from April 1 - September 30, 2010
SUBMITTED BY: APPROVED BY:
Nancy Mackie, Economic Developmen Director K ordhoff, City Manager
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt resolution authorizing street closures for the 2010 Downtown
Farmers' Market Festival on Thursday evenings from April 1 - September 30, 2010.
DISCUSSION: The Downtown Farmers' Market Festival continues to be a successful event. Last
year the event producers added monthly special events including Chef's demonstrations and feature
produce and fruits, which enhanced the event. It is worth noting that this past year had the highest
number of Downtown Merchants participating as vendors in the market than anytime in the past.
This year, the Market will continue with its traditional street closure times, as noted below.
The requested street closures are as follows:
1. Fourth Street from 'B" Street to Lincoln Avenue from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
2. "A" Street between Fifth and the entry to the Parking structure, Lootens between Fifth and
Commercial, and Cijos from Fourth to Commercial from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
FISCAL IMPACT: The Downtown Farmers' Market Festival requires support from Police and
Event Operations staff, and these costs are included in the Redevelopment Agency's budget.
OPTIONS: Disapprove street closures.
ACTION REQUIRED: Approve resolution authorizing street closures.
