San Pedro Road from Riviera Drive to Biscayne Drive for Marin County Marathon April 25, 2010 from 7:00am to 12:00pm. BACKGROUND: The annual Marin County Marathon will be held Sunday morning, April 25, 2010 beginning at 7:00am, at McNear's Beach County Park in San Rafael. This is a not for profit event. ALL proceeds are being donated to charity, which include for this year, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and San Rafael's Parents Place. The event producer, Mark Liebert is a local businessman and quite adept at creating a successful, sustainable event that is solely created to benefit local charities. Last year's marathon raised over five thousand dollars and the November triathlon raised over two hundred thousand dollars. He has already contacted the residents in the Peacock Gap informing them of this year's event with almost one hundred percent positive responses. Up to a thousand local and national athletes will participate, providing much needed funds to the charities mentioned above. Event hours are 7:00am — 4:00pm Street to be closed from 7:00am to 12:00pm: Eastbound San Pedro Road from Riviera Drive to Biscayne Drive The proposal will be coordinated with the Police, Fire, and Public Works. FISCAL IMPACT: Staff and the Police Department are coordinating any City involvement with the event producer, the County and the Highway Patrol. Since it is a very small part of the event course a minimum number of Police Officers will be required. The producer will pay for all related Police Services. Cleanup is being handled by the event producers. ACTION REQUIRED: Approve Resolution authorizing temporary closure of eastbound Point San Pedro Road at Riviera Drive to Biscayne Drive from lam to 12pm to allow for safe passage for the Marin County Marathon athletes during this charity event. SAN PEDRO ROAD FROM RIVIERA DRIVE TO BISCAYNE DRIVE FOR MARIN COUNTY MARATHON APRIL 25, 2010 FROM 7AM TO 12PM WHEREAS, the second annual Marin County Marathon necessitates the temporary closure of a street as specified below: Eastbound San Pedro Road from Riviera Drive to Biscayne Drive, lam to 12pm; and WHEREAS, after reviewing plans for the event and the traffic patterns, City staff has determined and recommended that, in the interest of the safety and welfare of pedestrian and auto traffic in the Peacock Gap area, the above street should be temporarily closed to through traffic for the date and times described above. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: 1. That all of the above findings are true and correct; 2. That, pursuant to the authority of Vehicle Code section 21101(e), for the safety and protection of persons, both pedestrians and vehicle drivers, the City Council hereby authorizes the temporary closure of the above listed streets for the date and times described above.
