SUMMARY BACKGROUND: At the meeting of February 17, 2009, the City Council called for applications to fill two, four-year terms on the Fire Commission to the end of March, 2013, due to the expiration of terms of Mary Ellen Irwin and Peter Martin. The deadline for receipt of applications was set for Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 12:00 Noon, extended to March 27, 2009 and further extended to April 28, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. Five applications were received in the City Clerk's Office by the deadline. ONLY RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL MAY APPLY. The Fire Commission regularly meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at San Rafael Fire Station # 1 at 1039 C Street. Interviews of applicants will be held at a Special Meeting of the San Rafael City Council on Monday, May 4, 2009, commencing at 6:00 p.m., to fill two, four-year terms to the end of March, 2013. MY REASONS FOR WANTING TO SERVE ARE: •I have fifty years of broad experience in the fire service field. • I continue to work in the field, not for monetary reasons, but for continuing personal growth, interest. And contribution to the science and the communities at risk. • I have been a member of the San Rafael Fire Commission for four years and feel that I have brought a hands on fire perspective to the Commission. • I have been active in San Rafael as a neighborhood leader and this is an obvious move to broader community involvement. • I am familiar with and can interact comfortably with the firefighting community in general and San Rafael firefighters in particular. • I am very concerned about the fire department infrastructure issues and feel that I can contribute to a solution through service on the Fire Commission. • Being semi -retired allows me the necessary time to fulfill the commi ent it takes to carry my share of the Fire Commission duties and responsibilities.
