Ordinance No. 741 entitled:
An ordinance of the City of San Rafael amending
Chapter 12.12 Municipal Code of said City by
adopting, by reference, uniform bu$lding Code
Volume I, and the secondary code, Volume III,
1961 Editions, in lieu of 1958 Editions.
is a true and correct copy of an ordinance of said
City, and was introduced at a regular
meeting of the City Council of the City of San
Rafael, held on the 5th day of February 1962
as required by— City Charter
Published/in the San Rafael Independent Journal, a
newspaper printed and published in the City of San
Rafael and passed and adopted as an ordinance of
said City at a regular meeting of the
City Council of said City held on the 19th day of

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
AMENDING CHAPTER 12.12 MUNICIPAL CODE OF SAID CITY
BY ADOPTING, BY REFERENCE, UNIFORM BUILDING CODE
VOLUME I, AND THE SECONDARY CODE, VOLUME III,
1961 EDITIONS, IN LIEU OF 1958 EDITIONS
The Council of the City of San Rafael DO ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 12,12.010 of the Municipal Code of
the City of San Rafael is amended to read as follows:
ADOPTION OF UNIFORM BUILDING CODE. There is hereby
adopted, for the purpose of providing minimum standards to safe-
guard life or limb, health, property and public welfare, that
certain code known as the Uniform Building Code, Volume I, and the
Secondary Code, Volume III, published by the International Conference
of Building Officials, 610 South Broadway, Los Angeles 14, California,
being particularly the 1961 editions thereof and the whole thereof,
including the Table of Contents, Appendix and the Index therein, save
and except such portions as are hereinafter deleted, added thereto,
modified, or amended, of which said Code, Amendments and Secondary
Code, not less than three (3) copies have been and now are filed
in the office of the Clerk of the City of San Rafael, and the same
are hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as�f set out at length
herein, and from and after /✓/A2GH 22 n 1962, the
provisions thereof shall be controlling within the limits of the City
of San Rafael.
Section 2. Section 12.12.010 of the Municipal Code of the
City of San Rafael is amended by deleting therefrom the changes in
Table 5-B of Section 505 and in Table 5-C of Section 505(a), and
in Table 23-C.
Section 9. Section 12.12.010 of the Municipal Code of
the City of San Rafael is further amended by adding thereto the
following changes and amendments to the Uniform Building Code adopted
by Section 12.12.010 of said Code:
The following language is added to sub -section 304(d)
of said Code:
"A minimum of eight working hours notice shall be required
for all called inspections."

The second paragraph of Section 3801-1 of said Code is
amended to read as follows:
" If any portion of a story, basement or cellar is
located more than seventy-five feet (75') from open-
ings required in this Section, the story, basement or
cellar shall be provided with an approved automatic
fire -extinguishing system."
Section 1302(b) of said Code is amended by adding thereto
the following:
"Walls and ceilings separating different tenants shall
be of not less than 30 minute fire resistive construction.
where one hour fire resistive construction is not required."
Section 2313(a) of said Code is amended by adding thereto
the following:
"Engineering caluulations will not be required for one
and two story buildings 6f H, I & J.occupancies con-
forming to the provisions of Section 2507(M 5."
Section 4. Section 12.12.020 of Municipal=Code of the
City of San Rafael, is further amended by adding to Section 1501,
Division 2, of said code, the following:
A. Private fallout shelters shall hereafter be known
as a J-1 occupancy for emergency use only.
B. Fallout shelter plans and specifications approved
by the Office of Civil Defense, will be accepted
by the Administrative Authority.
C. Fallout shelters shall meet the requirements of
Zoning Ordinance 514 with amendments.
D. All fallout shelters, other than private, shall
be approved by the City Council of the City of
San Rafael.
Section 5. This ordinance shall be published once in full
before its final passage in the Independent Journal, a newspaper of
general circulation printed, published and circulated in said City,
and shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days after its
passage.
