BACKGROUND: A group of non-profit and faith organizations are sponsoring a week of events to celebrate affordable housing in Marin. Events include open houses at affordable housing developments in the County. The City of San Rafael has supported this event since 2004. ANALYSIS: As a leader of affordable housing in the County, San Rafael would like to join with others in showing our support of affordable housing. FISCAL IMPACT: NONE OPTIONS: • Adopt the resolution • Reject the resolution ACTION REQUIRED: Adopt the attached resolution. ATTACHMENTS: None. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL JOINING WITH OTHER BAY AREA COMMUNITIES IN SUPPORT OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING WEEK MAY 6-15,2011 WHEREAS, affordable housing continues as a primary aspect of sustainable, balanced and diverse communities; and WHEREAS, many residents of our community, including individuals and families who are homeless, a wide range of Marin's workforce, seniors, and people living with disabilities, continue to need affordable housing; and WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael has long been a leader in affordable housing with 1,286 housing units with long term affordability covenants; WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael continues to work with non-profit organizations and private developers to create and maintain affordable housing in our community; and WHEREAS, the City Council welcomes the opportunity to celebrate the attractive, quality affordable housing in our community; and WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael has adopted a Housing Element that includes policies and programs to foster the preservation and construction of affordable housing throughout the community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED; that the City of San Rafael join with municipalities around the Bay Area in setting aside May 6-15 as Affordable Housing Week, a time for education, reflection and re -commitment to affordable housing goals in the coming year. I, ESTHER C.
