FIRE COMMISSION MEETING

Chair Stephen Mizroch called the Fire Commission to order at 4:03 pm. The minutes of
the August meeting were approved (the September 14 meeting was cancelled). The
format of agenda has been updated at the suggesti on of a member of the public and
enthusiastic supporter of SRFD together with the able assistance of Chief Sinnott.
Public Comment Time. Linda Barnello asked about the current statistics related to
firefighter disabilities noting that expert advice on ergonomic training is valuable. Dr.
Mizroch summarized his knowledge on the subject and Chief Sinnott indicated the
successful results of the Department’s multi-year program involving prevention, training
and ongoing updates.
Reports
Chair Mizroch noted that the San Rafael Fire Foundation’s annual Crab Feed is on track
for December 17, 2016. He also indicated that the historic exhibits subcommittee has
no new developments, but the next meeting will be held in January. He then reminded
the Commissioners of the City’s annual holiday party at Falkirk scheduled for December
6, 2016 from 5:30-7pm.
Commissioner Luckham announced that he will be out of the country from December 2
through January 2, 2017. His Photo 50 project has been inactive except for one occasion
documenting a forensic training session. He continues to assist in the documentation
of the existing stations #57, 52 and 51 that are scheduled for demolition and
replacement. He mentioned that oral histories are available and would be valuable for
the Department’s history.
Commissioner Lenert mentioned that she will be attending the upcoming County Hazard
Mitigation working group meeting and report back to the Commission. She reported on
the successful countywide CERT drill held recently in Mill Valley. Lastly, she noted that

the City is in the process of revising its Residential Building Report process that may
improve firefighter safety over the long term as non-conforming construction is
corrected. She volunteered to assist communications with neighborhood organizations
as temporary quarters for the three stations being replaced.
Commissioner Weathers had no formal report.
Chief Sinnott shared Fire Chief Gray’s report (attached).
The meeting adjourned at 4:49 pm.
