BACKGROUND & DESCRIPTION The new Home Goods retail tenant located in the renovated pad building at 6000 Northgate Mall Drive in the Northgate Mall Shopping Center has requested an amendment to the approved Northgate Mall Sign Program (SP07-91 & SP14-001), Staff recently approved a minor modification to allow an increase in the height of the sign letters, from the standard 3'0" allowance to 3'6 n for the street frontage sign and 4'0" for the main entry wall sign . Home Goods requests approval to install two (2) additional 3'6" high wall signs on the interior building walls to prOVide building identification on otherwise blank walls facing the internal mall parking areas. The revised sign request would consist of the following signs : Existing permitted and installed signs (per SP14-001) 1) One (1) 4'0" tall halo-lit individual leUer wall sign above the main building entry (Sign A) 2) One (1) 3'6 u tall halo lit individual letter wall sign on the street frontage (Sign 8) 3) One (1) 12" by 30" aluminum under canopy sign with routed out push-thru lettering (Sign E) Additional Proposed signs 4) Two (2) 3'6" tall halo-lit individualleUer wall signs on the interior facing building walls (Signs C & D) Staff notes that the sign program permits the following signs for the new or renovated exterior facing mall tenants: • 3'0" tall primary wall signs on frontages with push-thru or halo-illuminated individual letters, e 12" tall secondary signs, • 3D tall window signs, and • 6 square foot metal blade sign with routed graphics/logos (See Exhibit 3 -Page 40 of the Northgate Mall Sign Program). The major anchor tenants (Sears, Kohl's and Macy's) are permitted to maintain pre-existing internally illuminated signs on these buildings which exceed the sign number, illumination and size limits established for the rest of the center , Kohl's was permitted to replace 5'7" tall internally illuminated individual letter wall signs on all four sides of the former Mervyns freestanding building . City staff may approve minor changes to the sign program. Major changes require Board review and recommendation .
