SUBJECT: 5800/6000 Northgate Mall Drive (Northgate Mall I Home Goods Sign Program
Amendment) -SP14-005; Northgate Mall Sign Program Amendment to allow two (2) 3'6"
wall signs along the interior walls of the Home Goods pad building, in addition to an existing

Neighborhood .
BACKGROUND & DESCRIPTION
The new Home Goods retail tenant located in the renovated pad building at 6000 Northgate Mall Drive
in the Northgate Mall Shopping Center has requested an amendment to the approved Northgate Mall
Sign Program (SP07-91 & SP14-001), Staff recently approved a minor modification to allow an increase
in the height of the sign letters, from the standard 3'0" allowance to 3'6 n for the street frontage sign and
4'0" for the main entry wall sign . Home Goods requests approval to install two (2) additional 3'6" high
wall signs on the interior building walls to prOVide building identification on otherwise blank walls facing
the internal mall parking areas. The revised sign request would consist of the following signs :
Existing permitted and installed signs (per SP14-001)
1) One (1) 4'0" tall halo-lit individual leUer wall sign above the main building entry (Sign A)
2) One (1) 3'6 u tall halo lit individual letter wall sign on the street frontage (Sign 8)
3) One (1) 12" by 30" aluminum under canopy sign with routed out push-thru lettering (Sign E)
Additional Proposed signs
4) Two (2) 3'6" tall halo-lit individualleUer wall signs on the interior facing building walls (Signs C &
D)
Staff notes that the sign program permits the following signs for the new or renovated exterior facing
mall tenants:
• 3'0" tall primary wall signs on frontages with push-thru or halo-illuminated individual letters,
e 12" tall secondary signs,
• 3D tall window signs, and
• 6 square foot metal blade sign with routed graphics/logos
(See Exhibit 3 -Page 40 of the Northgate Mall Sign Program).
The major anchor tenants (Sears, Kohl's and Macy's) are permitted to maintain pre-existing internally
illuminated signs on these buildings which exceed the sign number, illumination and size limits
established for the rest of the center , Kohl's was permitted to replace 5'7" tall internally illuminated
individual letter wall signs on all four sides of the former Mervyns freestanding building . City staff may
approve minor changes to the sign program. Major changes require Board review and
recommendation .
As noted above, staff recently granted approval for a minor modification to the approved sign program
allowing Home Goods to install 4'0" tall primary wall sign letters on the store front entry, and a 3'6" tall
wall sign on the
