DRAFT GENERAL PLAN 2040 SAFETY ELEMENT
•Seven policies & 16 program addressing SLR
Focus on awareness/disclosure, framework for regulation, planning for
adaptation
•Sea Level Rise Projection Map –update every 5 years
•Commitment to assess SLR in new development + capital projects
•Establish minimum construction elevation + SLR Overlay
•Improve/expand shoreline levee system
•Prepare and adopt a Sea Level Rise Adaptation Plan –HIGH PRIORITY

PURPOSE & CONTENT
•Building from most current resources and utilizing BayWAVE as a foundation +
compliance with SB 379
•Initial guidance on what should be covered in the adaptation plan, approach to
preparation and suggestions suitable for San Rafael
Clear objectives –develop through a community-based process
Identify policies and regulatory measures
Identify appropriate adaptation tools and strategies
Identify funding measures and funding sources for implementation
