FIRE DEPARTMENT FIRE COMMISSION MEETING
Minutes of the Regular Meeting
October 14, 2020
Meeting via Zoom
The meeting was called to order at 4:08p.m. by Chair Mizroch.
Present: Chair Stephen Mizroch, Vice Chair Larry Luckham, Nadine Hade, Eli Hill, Thomas Weathers,
David Fonkalsrud, and Stan Burford.
Staff: Chief Darin White
1. Approval of Minutes: M/S Luckham/Burford to approve the minutes from the September 9, 2020 Fire
Commission meeting.

2. Open Time for Public Expression: None.
3. Fire Foundation Report. Stock donation made by Donna McCusker. Deposit for Crab Feed deferred to
December 2021. Funding request will be going out; Jeff Kramer to match all donations. Discussion on
spending priorities included Class A uniform subsidization, Emergency Operations Center computers,
and cancer detection canine program.
4. Historic Subcommittee: Plans for display case and artifacts have been deprioritized. There was
discussion on ways to provide community members a virtual tour and visibility to the Public Safety
Center.
5. Commissioner Reports: The commissioners provided their reports.
• Chair Mizroch: Urged for people to get the flu shot.
• Vice Chair Luckham: Provided report on Public Works film and shared advanced European fire
helmet.
• Commissioner Weathers: No report this month.
• Commissioner Hade: No report this month.
• Commissioner Hill: Shared progress on enhancing data capabilities for SRFD.
• Commissioner Fonkalsrud: Provided recognition to Quin Gardner for engagement with the
community on emergency updates, crisis preparation, and wildfire prevention.
• Commissioner Burford: Raised topic of the use of freelance fire personnel; Chief White provided
comments.
6. Fire Chief’s Report: Chief White provided verbal report spanning several topics, including:
• Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA)
o Northern California Council for The Community (NCCC) crews will be deployed 10/29 for
six weeks to perform vegetation management focusing on open spaces.
o Executive Director is Mark Brown; started on 10/1; will meet with Chief White in the
week of 10/19.
o Zone Haven has been engaged to develop evacuation plans and situational awareness.
• PG&E
o Enhanced fire detection capabilities via new installations of HD cameras for fire
detection.
o Better grid segmentation to mitigate PSPS impacts via temporary substations and
generation assets.
• COVID-19
o Marin County is transition from Purple to Red.
• Fire Safe Marin
o A-frame signs have been placed and flags have been raised on flagpoles to notify the
public of Red Flag days.
o Vegetation management specialists have been secured for year-round engagement.
Adjournment: The Fire Commission meeting was adjourned at 5:19 p.m. The next meeting is tentatively
scheduled for Thursday, November 12, 2020 due to Veteran’s Day.
