Overview
Item 16 in the Wildfire Action
Plan calls for eliminating
ignition sources in open space
Reducing ignition potential
reduces wildfire risk
Nearly all San Rafael wildfires
are human caused
•The option to install a designated smoking
area has been available since 2012
•Designated smoking areas are not been
widely established
•The lack of designated smoking areas drives

•This creates increased wildfire risk and
environmental impacts
