Pilot Program
•In 2020, two community groups expressed interested in creating public art
projects
•In February 2021, City staff recommended a pilot public art program to
allow public art projects to undergo a separate, more streamlined review
process, exempt from Design Review and Planning Commission processes
•Amended the Municipal Code and eliminated $8k fee
•Created Advisory Group to review projects
•Canal Arts Initiative and Terra Linda Social Justice Community Art Group
participated in the pilot program

City Council on public art installations
•Five-member committee, including representatives from Park &
Recreation Commission and Design Review Board
•Non-voting City Council liaison from relevant district
•Hold quarterly public meetings
