Open Time for Public Expression The public is welcome to address the Fire Commission at this time on matters not on the agenda that are within its jurisdiction. Please be advised that pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, the Fire Commission is not permitted to discuss or take action on any matter not on the agenda unless it determines that an emergency exists, or that there is a need to take immediate action which arose following posting of the agenda. Comments may be no longer than two minutes and should be respectful to the community . 2. Approval of Minutes – August 9, 2023 Recommended Action: Amend and or approve as submitted. 3. Fire Foundation – Verbal Update from Commissioner Donna McCusker Recommended Action: Accept Verbal Report and take appropriate action. 4. Current Media Coverage Informational only. No action to be taken. 5. Chair and Commission Member Reports: Stan Burford– Chair David Fonkalsrud- Vice Chair Ken Johnson Thomas Weathers Donna McCusker, Alternate Informational only. No action to be taken on these items. 6. Fire Chief Report Informational only. No action to be taken. Any records relating to an agenda item, received by a majority or more of the board or commission less than 72 hours before the meeting, shall be available for inspection at San Rafael Fire Department’s Administrative Office, 1375 Fifth Avenue, San Rafael, CA. CITY OF SAN RAFAEL FIRE COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING August 9, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. In Person Meeting at 1375 Fifth Ave, San Rafael, CA 94901 The meeting was called to order at 4:02 p.m. by Stan Burford. Present: Chair Nadine Stan Burford Commissioner Ken Johnson Commissioner Dave Fonkalsrud Commissioner Thomas Weathers Deputy Fire Chief Robert Sinnott 1. Open Time for Public Expression No public comments 2. Approval of Minutes Commissioner Burford makes a motion to approve the draft minutes. Motion approved. Chair Burford moved to adopt the draft minutes. The minutes were adopted unanimously. 3. Fire Foundation Chair Burford presented on behalf of Donna McCusker Chair Burford updates us on the need for volunteers for the Crabfeed on December 9th 4. Current Media Coverage Commissioner Weathers talks about Maui Fires Commissioner Fonkalsrud began by talking about the Fire break in Novato Chief Sinnott began by touching on the vegetation management improvement in San Rafael Chair Burford began by talking on the San Rafael San Anselmo fuel reduction zone project 5. Commissioners’ Report Commissioners Fonkalsrud: Commissioner Fonkalsrud updates the commission on IT around social media channels Commissioners Johnson: Commissioner Johnson shares his take on the fire prevention efforts Commission Weathers: Commissioner Weathers asks Chief Sinnott about a ride along Commission Weathers also asks about the fire commission vacancy Chair Burford: Chair Burford began by talking about the new rules and regulations Chair Burford asks on the possibility of holding fire commission meetings at various fire stations He also mentions the City Attorney will be attending October meeting Chair Burford also asks about the benefits of possibly having different department heads attend a fire commission meeting Chair Burford asks how often the fire department taps into a swimming pool 6. Fire Chief’s Report Chief Sinnott provides an overview of the Fire Chief’s Report and answers any questions pertaining to it Meeting adjourned at 4:56pm
