FIRE COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING
July 12, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.
In Person Meeting at 1375 Fifth Ave, San Rafael, CA 94901
The meeting was called to order at 4:08 p.m. by Nadine Atieh.

1. Open Time for Public Expression
No public comments
2. Approval of Minutes
Commissioner Burford moves to amend the draft minutes.
After corrections the minutes will be adopted.
3. Board and Commission updates
City Clerk Lindsey Lara attended and provided information and answered questions about Rules and
Procedures.
4. Fire Foundation
Commissioner McCusker began by confirming the crab feed will take place and providing event details.
Commissioner McCusker asks Chief White on the possibility of having SRFD sell t-shirts to help fund
different firefighter activities.
5. Commissioners’ Report
Commissioner Burford:
Commissioner Burford shares his story as to how he came to be a part of the fire commission.

Commissioner Johnson shares his story as to how he became a part of fire commission.
Commissioner Johnson asks about information on ride-alongs and if they are resuming
Commissioner Johnson asks about social media outreach and connecting wit h Fel from the Fire
Department for this.
Commissioner Johnson shares an article about high tech sensors able to detect wildfires before they
ignite.
Commission Weathers:
Commissioner Weathers shares his story as to how he became a part of fire commission.
Commissioner Weathers asks Chief White whether SFFD has dogs
6. Fire Chief’s Report (45:17)
Chief White shared the March and April Fire Report.
San Rafael, Marinwood, and Cal State Parks have a project underway, that’s designed to clear invasive
and non-native species.
On June 18th, the MWPA (Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority) board of directors will meet to approve
projects that have been recommended by the advisory technical committee.
Chief White was not able to attend the last MWPA Ops meeting on May 2nd but was told all the projects
were approved.
Meeting adjourned at 5:09pm
Commissioner McCusker began her comments for the crab feed to be put back at the Rec center,
December 9th which will be held at the old venue where volunteers will be needed.
