FIRE COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING
October 11, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.
In Person Meeting at 1375 Fifth Ave, San Rafael, CA 94901
The meeting was called to order at 4:03 p.m. by Stan Burford.

1. Open Time for Public Expression
No public comments
2. Approval of Minutes
Commissioner Burford makes a motion to approve the draft minutes. Commissioner Johnson seconds
the vote.
The minutes were adopted unanimously.
3. Brown Act
Genevieve Coyle, Assistant City Attorney, provides information on the Brown Act and conflicts of
interest.
4. Fire Foundation
Commissioner McCusker discusses the crab feed and fundraising. There is disappointment that they
don’t have a list of donors yet and don’t have the excel of donors from the last crab feed.
5. Current Media Coverage
Next month, the Girls Fire Camp will be discussed.

Commissioner Fonkalsrud continues to work with Fel on social media plans around fire safety and fire
information. Commissioner Weathers and Fonkalsrud coordinating with Captain Berkey on setting up a
ride along.
Commissioner Johnson discusses that the Department of Insurance in CA struck a deal to be more
reasonable in rate increases and will be offering insurance in CA again.
7. Fire Chief’s Report
Chief White provides an overview of the Fire Chief’s Report and answered questions pertaining to it.
